• What kind of username should I pick? Can it be anything?

Almost any name is fair game, but please keep the SoundCloud Community Guidelines in mind when picking. Also, in certain cases we may remove or change usernames that violate these rules:

No squatting: don’t pick a name just because it’s valuable or might be valuable to somebody else. Accounts that are reserved in big batches, or selected just to keep other people from using them are squatted, and that’s not allowed.

No impersonation: don’t pretend you’re somebody else with your username or account, even if that person is a celebrity. Uploading somebody else’s songs is copyright infringement, and using their name or picture isn’t cool.
  • How do I change my username?

You can change your username and permalink to your profile by clicking right here. To change your permalink, click the little pen icon that appears beside your URL, like in this image:

Please note that if you change the permalink to your profile, this will also affect all links and widgets you might have posted across the interwebs. Widgets that were posted before August 2010 will be broken. However, widgets posted after this time will still play your sounds but if the listener clicks through to the SoundCloud page, they will be directed to an empty page.
  • The username I want is taken! Can I have it?

We may be able to give you a username if the account has been inactive for six months, or was opened more than three months ago but has never been used. Just send us an e-mail and we’ll check it out for you--and please keep in mind that sometimes an account is being used even if the profile doesn’t show much activity.

If you believe your username or trademark is taken by a squatter or somebody impersonating you, please send us an e-mail. SoundCloud is not at a position to mediate trademark disputes, but we’ll evaluate on a case-by-case basis for instances of squatting or impersonation, and may be able to re-assign the username.
  • Haven't received my email confirmation, what can I do?

Confirmation emails are generally sent out instantly. If you haven't received one yet, please check your spam folder to make sure it didn't end up there by accident. Then try again to re-send it from your account. Be sure to add mailer [at] soundcloud [dot] com to your address book in your email settings. If it still isn't working, check to see if there's a typo in your email. If not, send us an email and we'll help you out.
  • Why are my sounds showing up on my own dashboard?

We've made some changes to which content is displayed in our dashboard feeds, in order for your stream to behave the same across platforms. As part of this, your own uploads will now be shown in the 'Incoming Tracks' tab, as well as the main Dashboard at SoundCloud.com/dashboard
  • What things actually end up in my dashboard?

You’ll receive Dashboard notifications from members you are following on SoundCloud, like what they're favoriting these days and what sounds they're commenting on. It’s a good way to keep up to date with what your collaborator, favorite producer, label, or friend is into at the moment! You'll also see the stream of activity from your own tracks, like recent comments and favorites.

You can even choose what shows up on your Dashboard. To do this, click the big pen icon beside 'Dashboard' and choose whatever you like!

  • Can I select a profile tab to be shown by default when people come to my profile?

Mmhmm. Go to your public profile (that's your profile's permalink) and click the settings symbol next to your profile tabs. Then, choose whichever tab your heart desires!

  • What is Spotlight?

On SoundCloud, the "Tracks" tab works like a news feed, so the latest uploads always show up on top. If you would like to re-order your tracks, you can do this within sets you create, or highlight certain tracks and sets in the order of your choice using the Premium feature Spotlight.

Spotlight is an extra profile tab available to Premium accounts, that allows you to feature 5 items from your profile. They can be tracks, sets, or a mixture of both.

You can find out more about Spotlight here.
  • How do I change my email address?

You can change your primary email address here! Just add the email you want to change it to where it says 'Add another email address'. You'll then get a confirmation email in your inbox and you'll have to confirm it from there. Once that's done, you can switch it to your primary email by checking the circle beside it on the left side!

If you're having troubles with your confirmation, take a look at this FAQ.
  • I'm getting too many/few email notifications from SoundCloud, what can I do?

Go to your email notifications settings page, and you’ll be able to set your notification preferences. You can choose exactly which type of events you wish to be notified about and how often. Please note: currently the digest email notifications aren't consistently being sent out, so it's recommended to choose 'Right away' if you would like to receive any email notifications.
