Account policies

What kind of account issue would you want to know our policy on?

Account ownership
Deceased users
Minor users

Account Ownership

The only means we have of verifying the ownership of an account is the email address that was used to create the account. This means that the individual who controls the original email address used at sign up, is the owner of that account.

Our account ownership policy is designed to protect the security and privacy of our community, as well as satisfying our responsibilities as a service provider, in relation to applicable laws.

Deceased users

Only verified, immediate family members or those authorized to act on behalf of the deceased's estate can gain access to the account of that SoundCloud community member. After a number of  verification questions, we can - lock or delete the account, or transfer ownership, depending on your wishes.

Minor users

Protecting the privacy of our community members (particularly those who are minors) is a priority for us.

Users must agree to our Terms of Use on signup in order to have a valid SoundCloud account. These terms clearly state that you must be "either 18 years of age or more, or if you are under 18 years of age, you are 16 years of age or more if you reside in the European Union or 13 years of age or more if you reside in the United States or anywhere else".

If you break the rules

If we receive reports that an account was set up by a minor without the permission of their parents, we will remove the reported account and send an email notification to the account owner. We will only restore these accounts if the account owner can provide us with evidence that they are over 18, or that they have parental permission.
