Podcast Insights on SoundCloud
You can view insights for your podcast through your Insights Overview page. You can access your Insights Overview page at anytime through the drop-down menu from your avatar on the top navigation header.
Plays
Your play count shows you the total number of times your fans have listened to your sounds on SoundCloud.com, through our embedded player, our mobile apps for iOS and Android, and our API.
Play counts also include streams and downloads via your RSS feed.
The total play count is a direct indicator of how often your content is being consumed. A higher play count generally signifies growing interest and audience engagement with your podcast. Consistent increases in play count can reflect effective promotion or compelling content that resonates with your audience.
Downloads
Public and private insights
Plays, likes, comments, and repost counts are all displayed publicly on your sounds by default, but Artist Pro users can hide those numbers if they’d prefer to keep that information private with our Quiet Mode feature.
Downloads counts (if you are an Artist Pro user) are private metrics that are only visible when you’re signed into your account.
Public insights help you gauge audience interaction and engagement with your content. For example, a high number of likes and comments could indicate strong listener approval, potentially attracting new listeners. Private insights like download counts can help you assess true audience demand without public scrutiny.
What does the 'Other Sources' section show?
The 'Other Sources' section displays stats from outside SoundCloud, tracking where users have listened to or downloaded your episode. It includes metrics from websites, RSS feeds, and third-party apps. However, some plays from specific platforms (e.g., Spotify) may not be trackable by SoundCloud, which can lead to discrepancies if you try to total all the tracks together.
Understanding where your audience is listening from—whether through direct RSS feed downloads, embedded players on other websites, or third-party apps—can help you tailor your distribution strategy. If a significant portion of your audience listens through a particular third-party app, you might want to focus on optimizing your presence on that platform.
