How to Fix Issues with Stuck Transcoding During SoundCloud Uploads
How long might the transcoding process take based on file size and internet speed?
The time it takes for the transcoding process depends on the file size and the speed of your internet connection. Larger files generally take longer to transcode. To ensure a smooth process, itβs recommended to use a stable internet connection, preferably through an ethernet connection rather than Wi-Fi. This can help reduce the time it takes for your track to be processed.
What tips can help troubleshoot common errors during transcoding, such as browser-related issues or unsupported file formats?
If you encounter issues during transcoding, such as the progress bar getting stuck, consider the following troubleshooting steps:
- Check your internet connection: Ensure that your connection is stable (wifi or mobile), and try using an ethernet connection for better reliability.
- Disable plugins: see if you've installed any plugins on your browser and please disable them, as they may be blocking your upload from completing.
- Avoid using 3rd party integrations for uploading: We recommend only uploading via SoundCloud web or our apps directly
- Use supported file formats: Make sure your file is in a supported format such as .wav or .mp3, encoded at 44.1kHz and 16-bit. SoundCloud supports formats including AIFF, WAVE (WAV), FLAC, ALAC, OGG, MP2, MP3, AAC, AMR, and WMA. The maximum file size is 5GB, and the track should not exceed 6 hours and 45 minutes in length.
- Minimize metadata during upload: Leave all fields except for the title empty until the track is fully uploaded and has entered processing. This can help avoid issues during the upload.
- Try a different browser: If the issue persists, try uploading your track using a different browser, such as Firefox or Chrome.
- Remove emojis from the track title: Make sure that there are no emojis in the track title metadata or custom fonts. Please note, that you can add this in the track title after the upload is finished.
- Check the Status page: Visit the SoundCloud Status page to ensure there are no ongoing problems with the transcoding process at the time of your upload.
