Changing Privacy Settings When Uploading A Track
What are the different availability options when uploading a track to SoundCloud?
When you upload a track to SoundCloud as a free, Artist, Artist Pro subscriber, you have two basic availability options: Public and Private. As a Artist Pro user, you also have the option to schedule your uploads, allowing you to choose the date and time when your tracks become live.
What is the difference between public and private tracks on SoundCloud?
- Public tracks: Anyone can listen to your track, and it will show up immediately on your SoundCloud profile page and in your followers’ Streams.
- Private tracks: These are hidden from your followers after upload. You can share them exclusively via private links. Private tracks won't appear on your public profile and can't be searched for within SoundCloud.
What happens when I schedule a track release on SoundCloud?
A scheduled track will remain private until the date and time you specify in the settings. After that, it will go public automatically. The date and relative timestamp on the track card will be based on your local time.
How can I change the privacy settings of my track on SoundCloud?
To change the sharing settings of your track, click on the bubble next to the words ‘private’, ‘public,’ or ‘scheduled,’ and then click save. Please note that once your track has gone live, it cannot be rescheduled.
What are the Implications of Each Setting?
- Public Setting: Ideal for tracks you want to be immediately accessible to the public and discoverable by anyone on SoundCloud.
- Private Setting: Best for tracks you wish to share with select individuals, such as collaborators or specific audiences, without making them publicly available.
- Scheduled Setting: Useful for planning releases in advance, allowing you to time your track’s availability for a specific event or marketing campaign. Once the track is live, you cannot reschedule it.
