Proving Copyright Ownership for Monetization

Monetizing your music on SoundCloud requires clear proof of copyright ownership, especially if your track is flagged for copyright concerns. This essential process ensures that only artists with proper rights can earn from their creations. By providing valid documentation, you protect your music, comply with industry standards, and keep SoundCloud a fair space for creators.

Understanding Copyright and Monetization on SoundCloud

SoundCloud’s monetization system verifies your right to the music you upload. If you use samples, beats, or sound packs, you may need to demonstrate that you have the legal right to use every element in your track before you can enable monetization features, such as ads or fan-powered royalties.

Types of Documentation Acceptable

  • Licensing agreements (showing permission to use copyrighted material)
  • Purchase receipts for sound packs, beats, or samples
  • Signed statements affirming the use of royalty-free or factory content
  • Collaboration agreements (if working with other artists)

How to Submit Documentation with Monetization Submission

  1. Go to your Monetization tab on your SoundCloud for Artists account.
  2. Click Monetize this track beside the track in question
  3. Scroll down until you see the section: License Documentation. There you will be able to upload your documentation.
  4. Submit Monetization Review and wait up to 3-5 days for approval.
