How to use tools:

Combobulator:

The Combobulator resynthesises an audio input signal by performing a timbral “style-transfer” on it. It uses a revolutionary new synthesis method, neural synthesis, to reinterpret real-time audio through a selected model (AKA “Artist Brain”, AKA Neural Network). Neural synthesis does not use samples. The neural synthesis engine synthesizes the output from scratch, based on what each model has “learned” about sound during model training.

While the Combobulator functions like an audio effect, it is designed to be played as a neural synthesis instrument. Each model is like a “black box” that contains a universe of timbres that can only be explored by altering the input signal and modulating the latents, a neural synthesis concept we will clarify in section 2. Each model can be used to create drums, bass, textures, melodies, and harmonies, all together or individually.

To use, simply load the Combobulator onto any audio track in your DAW as an audio effect. Select your model to hear your audio re-created with neural audio synthesis on playback. Tweak the controls, use the modulation controls on the right, and scroll through the presets to explore and modulate the neural network.

Concatenator:

Concatenator is a real-time “audio mosaicing” plugin that reconstructs a real-time audio signal using segments of a user-defined library of samples. It applies a machine learning algorithm to analyze pitch, amplitude, and spectral features of the input, then dynamically arranges matching fragments in real time. Through its blend of cutting-edge algorithms and a real-time engine, Concatenator streamlines the creation of audio mosaics, transforming extensive sample libraries into dynamic instruments or spontaneous collages.

Unlike traditional granular synthesis, which often relies on randomness, Concatenator adopts a data-driven approach. This enables precise, automatic matching of the input signal with the loaded corpus (the “library” of sounds) while minimizing the need for manual editing.

Key parameters such as polyphony, “particles,” and “variation” allow users to fine-tune how precisely Concatenator imitates the source audio. Familiar synthesis modulation features open up further creative possibilities. Concatenator’s low-latency processing— under 50 milliseconds—makes it suitable for live performance, interactive sound design, and studio production.
