How do I upload a track to SoundCloud?

First steps

To upload a track, go to the Upload page. You can get there at any time by clicking on the Upload button on the top navigation bar on your computer:

On the Upload page, you can either click ‘Choose file to upload’ or drag and drop the file into the screen.

Please note: If you are a Free or Pro user, you will see how many minutes you have remaining on your account on the bottom of the Upload page. If you upload a file that puts you over these remaining minutes, tracks will be hidden on your account to make room.

Transcoding

Once you have selected your audio file, it will immediately start uploading and we will transcode it to be streamable on SoundCloud. We transcode all tracks to 128 kbps mp3 and 64 kbps opus for streaming playback. We also transcode to high quality 256kbps aac, if your audio file is eligible for that.

If you want your fans to be able to have the original file version then you can enable downloads for your track. The downloaded track will be the original file and not any of the transcoded streaming versions.

Add or change track information

While your track is uploading, you can add any additional track information.

Most SoundCloud users find music channels through search results and Explore, so optimizing your tracks for discovery will help you reach a wider audience.

Ensure your tracks are well indexed and easily discoverable by optimizing your metadata through the use of strong titles, descriptions, and tags.
