Enhancing Account Privacy and Security on SoundCloud

How can users secure their SoundCloud account and adjust privacy settings?

To ensure your account is secure and your privacy is protected:

  1. Having a Private Account:
    • Consider setting your SoundCloud account to private if you prefer to keep your activity and content restricted to a limited audience. You can adjust this in your account settings.
  2. Privacy Within the SoundCloud Community:
    • Review and adjust your privacy settings to control who can interact with you on SoundCloud. This includes settings for comments, messages, and who can see your listening activity.
  3. Appearing in Google & Other Search Engines:
    • According to the help center article Appearing in Google and other search engine, there is no way to prevent your SoundCloud profile from appearing in Google or other search engines. However, if you prefer not to have your SoundCloud account show up when someone searches your name, you can change your Display Name and Profile URL to a stage name as a workaround.

What steps should users take if unauthorized changes are detected in their SoundCloud account?

If you notice changes to your account that you didn’t make:

  1. Reset Your Password Immediately:
    • The first step is to reset your password to secure your account. Choose a strong, unique password that is not used on other platforms.
  2. Review Recent Account Activity:
    • Check your account settings and recent activity to identify unauthorized changes or access. This includes reviewing connected apps, email addresses, and any changes to your profile or privacy settings.
  3. Adjust Privacy Settings:
    • After securing your account, ensure your privacy settings align with your preferences. This includes deciding who can see your profile, contact you, and view your activity on SoundCloud.

What should users do if they detect unauthorized changes to their accounts?

To address unauthorized changes:

  1. Revoke Access to Connected Apps:
    • If you suspect that unauthorized apps have been connected to your account, revoke access immediately through your settings “Connected applications” section.
  2. Enable Two-Factor Authentication (2FA):
    • For enhanced security, enable 2FA on your account. This adds an extra layer of protection by requiring a code from an authentication app and your password when logging in.
  3. Contact SoundCloud Support:
    • If you continue to notice unauthorized activity or changes, contact SoundCloud support for assistance. They can help secure your account and investigate any potential breaches.
