A Mechanical Rights Organization (MRO) is responsible for the administration of mechanical licenses, and they collect and payout mechanical royalties to songwriters and publishers when songs are reproduced and this includes physical products, digital streaming, downloads or television. 

A Performing Rights Organization (PRO) is responsible for collecting income on behalf of songwriters and music publishers when a song is publicly broadcast or performed. Public performances include digital streaming, plays on television or radio, in clubs and restaurants, on websites, or on other broadcasting systems.
