My track was taken down for copyright infringement
Beginning in 2010, SoundCloud has used automated content identification to help protect creators’ copyrights. When you upload a track, our system checks your upload against a database of tracks that copyright owners have asked us to block.
If the system detects a match, your upload may be blocked because that’s what the copyright owner has requested. We also run this system in the background after upload to identify infringing content on an ongoing basis. If a match is detected, the track may be automatically removed.
Why was my track taken down?
Your track may have been taken down if it:
Matches copyrighted content identified by our content identification system
Was reported for copyright infringement by a rights holder
Contains audio you don’t have the rights or permission to upload
Even if the track is available elsewhere or you created part of it yourself, it may still be taken down if you don’t have the necessary rights to share it on SoundCloud.
What can I do if my track was taken down?
If your track is identified by our content identification system or reported for copyright infringement, we are required to take it down.
If you do not have the rights to upload the content
No further action is needed.
The track will remain blocked on your account
Blocked tracks do not count toward your upload quota
What if I do have rights or permission?
If you believe a mistake has occurred and:
You have all rights or permissions to upload the content, or
Your use of someone else’s work qualifies as fair use or a copyright exception
You may file a dispute to have the takedown reviewed.
When filing a dispute, be sure to include clear and detailed information about your rights so our team can properly review your claim.
Our Copyright Team can best assist when:
Your track was misidentified by our content identification system, or
You have documented permission from the rights holder (for example, a license or lease for an instrumental)
If the track was reported directly by a rights holder, you may need to contact the reporting party to resolve the issue. In these cases, SoundCloud is not in a position to take sides, and the content must remain blocked in compliance with copyright law.
