Edit and customize your tracks

Customizing your tracks helps your music stand out and ensures your metadata is professional. You can edit your track details directly on SoundCloud at any time—however, edits made here do not affect releases sent to other streaming services.

Is your track already distributed to stores?

If this track is live on Spotify, Apple Music, or other DSPs, edits made through the SoundCloud "pencil icon" will ONLY update your SoundCloud profile.

To update the metadata or audio for a live release in stores, please follow the steps outlined here.

How to Edit

  • On Web: Click the pencil icon below the track's waveform, or go to your Artist Studio to select and edit multiple tracks in bulk.

  • On iOS: Tap the three dots to the right of your track and select the pencil icon (Edit track).

  • On Android: Tap the track, navigate to the edit section, and make your changes.

1. Artwork

Your artwork is the visual hook for your music.

  • Specs: Upload a .jpg or .png (at least 800 x 800 pixels) under 2MB.

  • Style Tip: High-contrast, simple designs tend to stand out best in a crowded feed.

2. Title and URL

Clear titles improve your searchability and look better on social shares.

  • Concise is better: Avoid repeating your artist name in the title. Use "Midnight Drive (Original Mix)" instead of "Artist Name - Midnight Drive."

  • Custom URL: You can customize the track's permalink on the Web to make it easier to share.

  • Track Length: Track titles must be 1-100 characters and cannot include emojis.

3. Artist Name & Collaborators

By default, your profile name is the artist name. You can override this in the Metadata tab to keep your profile clean.

  • Adding Collaborators: Add guest artists in the "Artist" field within the Metadata section. This ensures they are credited without cluttering the main track title.

4. Track Description

Provide fans with context, like the story behind the track or links to collaborators, by typing ‘@’ before their SoundCloud name. Descriptions can be up to 4,000 characters.

  • Links: HTML isn’t supported, but full URLs will display as clickable links.

5. Genre and Tags

Tags act as a map for the SoundCloud algorithm to find your fans.

  • The Lead Tag: Your first tag should be your main genre (e.g., Hip Hop, Electronic).

  • Search Optimization: Use specific sub-genres or moods. Avoid splitting words; use "Lo Fi" as one tag rather than "Lo" and "Fi."

  • Pro Tip: Start your first tag with a main audio category from the Explore page, like “podcast.” Then narrow it down to specifics such as “NPR.” Adding proper nouns of guests or locations mentioned is also helpful.

6. Advanced Metadata (ISRC & Publisher)

For professional tracking, use the Metadata or Advanced tabs to log:

  • ISRC Codes: The unique "digital fingerprint" for your audio.

  • Record Label / Publisher: Essential for proper professional branding.

  • Buy Link: Add a direct link to your store, Bandcamp, or website.

Need to change your audio file? No problem. If the track is not yet distributed or monetized, you can replace the audio file via the pencil icon on the Web. If it is already distributed or monetized, you'll want to re-upload the track.

As always, feel free to ask our AI agent any questions. If they can't help you, you'll be escalated to a support specialist.
