On Mobile

On the Android app, click on the track, go to the edit section, and make the desired changes.

On the iOS app, click on the three dots to the right of your track, and select "Edit track" with the pencil icon.

Edit your track's artwork

Recommended format and size for track artwork

We accept images up to 2MB in size. For the best results, it’s recommended to upload a .jpg or .png file that is at least 800 x 800 pixels. Square images tend to look the best for track artwork.

You can add or change the artwork on your track either directly on the track or under the "Basic Info" tab in the track’s edit page. To access the edit page, click the pencil icon below the waveform on your track’s page.

Otherwise, please go to your Artist Studio page and click the 3 dots next to the track you want to update:

Update the artwork for multiple tracks at once

To change artwork for multiple tracks simultaneously, go to your Tracks page. Select the tracks you wish to update, then click the small pencil and tap ‘Add new artwork’. After selecting the image, click 'Apply changes' to save the image.

Tips for Choosing Impactful Artwork:

  • Keep It Simple: Choose artwork that is visually striking but not overly complex. Simple, bold designs tend to stand out more in a crowded feed.
  • Consistency: If you’re uploading multiple tracks or an album, consider using consistent themes or colors across all the artwork to create a cohesive visual identity.
  • Relevance: Ensure that the artwork reflects the mood or theme of the track. The more relevant the image, the more it will resonate with your audience.
  • High Quality: Always use high-resolution images to ensure your artwork looks sharp across all devices.

Edit your track’s title and URL

Clear track titles help fans identify what they’re listening to. Avoid repeating information shown elsewhere. Titles should be concise, informative, and relevant to the track.

To change a track’s title, go to the track's edit page by clicking the pencil icon below the waveform. Note: URLs can only be edited on the Web.

Limitations on track titles: track titles must be between 1 and 100 characters. Additionally, emojis are not supported in track titles at this time.

Examples of Good vs. Poor Track Titles:

  • Good Title: "Midnight Drive (Original Mix)."
  • Poor Title: "Track 03" (too vague and uninformative

Edit your track's description

Edit your track’s description anytime via the edit page on your computer or app by clicking the pencil icon below the waveform.

Provide fans with context, like the story behind the track or links to collaborators, by typing ‘@’ before their SoundCloud name. Descriptions can be up to 4,000 characters.

HTML isn’t supported, but full URLs will display as clickable links.

Edit your track's genre and tags

Tags help categorize your track's sound (e.g., spoken voice, hip-hop), making it easier for listeners to find it on SoundCloud.

The genre field lets you add your track’s main genre, which becomes the first tag. You can choose from a preset list (matching our Charts) or enter a custom genre. Add tags by typing them into the 'Tags' field. The first tag is your main genre and shows up on the Feed and Search pages on your track’s waveform.

Tagging Tips:

  • When users search for a genre via our Search engine, tracks with matching genre tags rank higher and are easier to find.
  • Incorrect use of multi-word tags, like splitting “hip hop,” reduces these benefits.
  • Adding multiple similar tags (e.g., "Drum & Bass," "Electro," "Bass," "Electronic") to one track won’t boost search results. Use just one main genre tag.

Audio creators: Make your first tag one of the main audio categories found at the bottom of the Explore page. Start with broad terms like “podcast” and narrow down to specifics like “NPR.” Including proper nouns of guests or locations discussed also helps.

Edit the artist name on your track

Your artist name is one of the main ways fans discover your music through search, so it’s important to keep your track metadata accurate and consistent.

When you upload a track, the artist name is automatically populated using the name of the account that uploaded it. However, you can customize how artist information appears by using the Artist field within your track’s metadata.

If the Artist field in the metadata section is filled out, it will override the profile name displayed on the track. This helps keep track titles clean and uncluttered, since artist names do not need to be included in the title itself.

To add or update an artist name for an existing track on the web:

  1. Go to your track and click Edit (the pencil icon below the waveform artwork).

  2. Navigate to the Metadata section.

  3. Add or edit names in the Artist field.

  4. Save your changes.

Adding Collaborators

If your track includes collaborators, add both your name and your collaborator’s name in the Artist field within the Metadata section. You don’t need to include collaborator names in the track title.

Both names will appear beneath the track, but keep in mind that clicking the artist name will only direct listeners to the uploader’s profile.

Upload from label or media partner accounts

When uploading from a label or media partner account, title your tracks simply as “Track Title” and include all artist names in the Artist field instead. This keeps naming consistent and improves discoverability.

Edit record label and additional metadata

Under Advanced settings within your Tracks page, you can add additional details such as:

  • Record label / Publisher

  • ISRC

  • Buy link

  • Other release information

Keeping your metadata complete helps listeners find your music more easily and ensures your tracks appear clean and professional across SoundCloud.
